Get Ready to Spring Into Action!

It’s that time of year when we can start thinking past the long, dark days to the wonderful arrival of Spring! And whether you’re a family with kids on school holiday, a couple looking for an easy, local escape or a solo traveller eager to get back out into the world after the winter – Youghal has so much to offer. Here are our Top 5 Attractions this Spring…

1. Family Heritage Tour Offers

If exploring the beautiful and ancient iconic buildings of Youghal has been on your to-do list for a while – now is the time to do it and SAVE! Here’s the deal: you can take a family tour of one attraction, then get entry to the other for FREE!

Youghal Clock Gate Tower promises you a “Hear, See, Touch” experience – with an immersive tour of audio-visual displays, exhibits, costumed guides and drama! Adults and kids alike love the ‘step back in time’ idea – learning about the Tower’s fascinating history both as a centre of town life and as a gaol.

Then, at no extra cost, you can go and explore Mary’s Collegiate Church in the historic Raleigh Quarter. It’s a beautiful national monument that dates to the 13th century and is one of Ireland’s oldest churches with magnificent architecture. You’ll get to enjoy the ‘Voices of St Mary’s’ experience – an audio tour in which the fictitious Roe family share their colourful memories of the Church through the years.

Offer ends on May 31st 2024.

2. See Spring Come to Life in Glenbower Woods

If you love swapping the noisy world for some peace in nature, head to Glenbower Woods and discover its many outdoor activities, walks and trails. The 6.4km loop in the dry months is considered easy – so don’t worry if you’re not at peak fitness after the winter! There are three colour-coded walks through the magical and mystical forest – and the real showstoppers are the Giant Redwood trees (native to California). Absolutely stunning and majestic! The wood was owned by the Anglo-Norman DeCapell family from 1182 to 1932 – so there’s so much history there, including a holy well. Great too that the woods are just 15 minutes from Youghal and there’s plenty of parking! Win, win!

3. Bird Watching on the Slob Bank

You don’t have to be a serious birder to enjoy the rich birdlife Slob Bank has to offer. Visit in March/April and you’re in for a real treat: this is the time when the native birds are nesting and the migrant birds arrive for their annual holiday – Swallows, Swifts and Sandwich Terns. As you explore, you’ll have river and marshland on one side, and the sea on the other – so there’s a wealth of water birds on show. You can also spot birds that have wintered in the area, such as Brent Geese and Great Northern Divers.

4. Movie Time at the Regal Cinema

It’s award season in Hollywood, so celebrate with your own silver screen treat. The beautiful art deco Regal Cinema turns movie night into a next level experience: it’s a gorgeous art deco building full of glamour and elegance, and there’s even a cocktail and wine bar to relax in after the show. Check it out here.

5. Swimming at Aura Leisure Centre

It’s still a bit chilly for a dip in the sea – but the kids won’t forgive you if they don’t get to swim on holiday! So, head off to the Aura Leisure Centre and its beautiful 25 metre pool. The great thing is it’s ‘pay as you go’ – so can just jump in whenever you feel like it. Take a look here.

Here’s to good times this Spring!
